Kojima Productions, the company behind Death Stranding, has announced to GamesIndustry.biz that it will be launching a new film, television, and music branch. The new business branch, which will be based in the Los Angeles region, will “explore potential outside game creation into film, television, and other types of entertainment.” Hideo Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear, created Kojima Productions in 2005.
According to GamesIndustry.biz:
The new subsidiary, based in Los Angeles, California, aims to expand the gaming studio’s games into other realms of pop culture. Riley Russell, who joins the firm after almost 28 years at PlayStation in different capacities including chief legal officer and VP of commercial affairs, will lead the new team.
“The new branch will be entrusted with collaborating with creative and brilliant individuals in television, music, and cinema, as well as the more well-known gaming business,” Russell said.
“The team’s mandate is to broaden the reach and knowledge of the Kojima Productions assets currently in production, and to make them even more ingrained in our popular culture.” Despite the fact that we are a worldwide company, the new business development team will be based in Los Angeles, California. We are ecstatic and eager to collaborate with the greatest entertainment talent we can find across all of the entertainment industry.”
“In a fast-paced, ever-changing narrative world, finding new methods to amuse, connect, and deliver value to our audience is crucial,” Kojima Productions’ business development manager Yoshiko Fukuda noted. “Our new branch will expand the studio’s creative storylines beyond videogames, as well as provide new opportunities for our fans to interact with and immerse themselves in these worlds.”
