Today, Blizzard announced that the Diablo II expansion, Diablo II: Resurrected , will include 21:9 ultrawide support. This means that if you hook up any 21:9 ultrawide monitor to your PC, you’ll be able to play the game in that aspect ratio. This is certainly interesting.
With Blizzard’s Diablo II: Resurrected, the classic action RPG has been updated for modern PC hardware, allowing players to play the game with 21:9 ultrawide resolutions. However, players have been reporting issues with their ultrawide resolutions, which shipped with the game.
Blizzard had previously broken the Diablo II engine by including support for Ultrawide monitors in Diablo II Resurrected, which had been released earlier this year. On May 5th, Blizzard announced that it had updated the game, which means that Diablo II can now support 21:9 ultrawide monitors.

Diablo II: Resurrected was intended to have ultrawide resolution compatibility, enabling users of 21:9 monitors to get the most out of their screens. That does not seem to be the case any more.
The Diablo II remaster will no not feature conventional ultrawide compatibility since it damages the game, according to Blizzard’s PezRadar on the official Diablo II: Resurrected forums. The technical alpha showed a slew of issues related to the 21:9 aspect ratio, including players being able to summon more monsters than planned and opponent AI failing to perform as expected.
As a consequence, the ultrawide support for Diablo II: Resurrected has been decreased from 21:9 to 19:9. For those with ultrawide displays, there will be a vignette on the sides of the game screen.
Following the Beta, we noticed a lot of discussion about whether or not ultrawide monitor support will be changed. During the Technical Alpha, gamers with Ultrawide hardware were able to use their full 21:9 displays. During that test, however, we discovered restrictions that affected those participants as well as others. For example, the AI was unable to detect the player and therefore launch assaults. Furthermore, gamers with 21:9 displays were able to summon a large number of monsters at a range that exceeded the game’s original purpose. Players using 21:9 monitors could strike opponents with the additional screen space in a situation where players (for example, playing a ranged class) were hitting monsters, but the monsters would not pull or respond, but could still be destroyed. Ultimately, the AI is unaffected by the extra distance provided by a 21:9 display. This isn’t intended, particularly if you’re playing with someone who has a 16:9 monitor. Those with Ultrawide displays will be able to have their game screen purview extended to 19:9 (the maximum length of the in-game restriction zones) with a vignette on the sides of the game screen to preserve the integrity of everyone’s experience and encourage a level playing field for everyone. We understand that gamers have invested a significant amount of money in their 21:9 hardware configurations, and that seeing black bars may detract from their enjoyment. As a result, we’ll keep an eye on these debates and look into potential solutions that don’t affect how the game is played.
On September 23, 2021, Diablo II: Resurrected will be launched on PC (Battle.net), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. That’ll be in a little more than two weeks.
